Head down to Union Station in Washington DC tonight (Thursday, December 3) at  6 p.m. for the Union Station Tree Lighting (Metro Red Line: Union Station).  Each year, the country of Norway donates a large live tree to Union Station. The ceremony is usually very short, and usually they pass out a cookie or two to the crowd, but it is fun to see the lights illuminated on the huge tree, festooned with Norweigian and American flags.

The real treat, however, is just adjacent where the model railway is set up depicting the Norway countryside and a few impressive trolls. Don’t come too late because the train model runs only until 7 p.m. during the week and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Norwegian Holiday Bazaar Moves to Fairfax, VA

Usually, Union Station is also the site for the Norwegian Holiday Bazaar.  But it has been moved to the Elks Club of Fairfax on Route 50 (8421 Arlington Boulevard, Fairfax, VA.).  It will take place this weekend, December 4-5,2009. Friday 10 am – 7 pm, Saturday 9 am – 3 pm, and will have holiday ornaments, cookies, and crafts for sale.
