Event: Christmas Celebrations in Old Town Alexandria This Weekend

Tomorrow is a great day to spend in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.  The day will begin with the Scottish Walk, a Christmas parade, at 11 a.m. (scheduled to run into 1 p.m.) Expect King Street to be closed during the parade; a good day for taking Metro and leaving the car at home.  If you like bagpipes or dogs, you will love this parade.

At 5 p.m., stroll down to the Potomac River at the Alexandria waterfront for the Holiday Boat Parade of Lights.  At nightfall, sail boats and motor boats of various sizes, all decked out with lights, will sail around the harbor.  You can see the boats from the Marina or from the adjacent park.  It is really worth seeing.  The boats are actually starting in Washington Harbor around 5 p.m. and they should be in Alexandria from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

After the Boat Parade, the Torpedo Factory holds its Holiday Open House.  You can meet the artists in their studios and enjoy live music and partake of refreshments.  It’s all free.  You might even find an artsy Christmas present!
