Do you need an amazing dress for Christmas or New Year’s Eve? Well, the time to shop is now. Many dresses I saw were half of today online and in stores. I bought a green velvet dress last night from WetSeal.com for $10!
I had fun looking through the online sales for Black Friday. My mission was to find dresses for Christmas and New Year’s Eve. I don’t have anything against black dresses but I love color for the holidays. The dresses above from Macy’s say Christmas Eve to me. (If you click on the image it, it should expand to a larger size view). They would be fine to wear out to dinner or the ballet but not too showy for an evening Mass. In other words, not TOO short, no bare backs or shoulders. Although I saw plenty of sleeveless styles, I think in winter something with a bit of sleeve is more practical and appropriate for more settings. The first red one is my favorite. It has a unique knit that also has a bit of metallic in it. I saw a dress in the same fabric in a different color at Altar’D States and it was much more (also much shorter). It looks easy to wear so I might order it. It’s not in stores, however, so I’d have to take a chance on the fit. But the red one in the middle with black flocking! That’s a gorgeous dress. The emerald green one has a diamond geometric pattern on the lace fabric that makes it look more contemporary than traditional.
Torrid is also having a sale online and in stores on Black Friday. These dresses will be half off which is a great deal. Red dresses can be brought out again for Valentine’s Day dates. I’m trying on a red v-neck skater style with 3/4 sleeves. But, I especially like the gold, flowy number above because it’s so different and flattering. We’ll see which wins!
Here are five sparkly dresses for New Year’s Eve from Macy’s. My goal for a special occasion dress — I want to look fantastic, feel confident and stand out. I don’t want to go to an event and think: I wish I had worn that. I don’t believe in dressing down!
When I made my selections, I thought about flattery, style, uniqueness, about how they look standing up, seated in a theater or at dinner and dancing. The most expensive one is a real stunner (above and right) and is on sale for $222. Normally, that’s a bit out of my price range but I think this dress is worth that and more. Look at the detail!
I don’t know how you would decide. They are all lovely. These are plus size styles but I peeked in the Misses section and they have gorgeous dresses and wraps. The silver one in the middle is also lovely and would be great for dancing.
What about separates? The greatest skirts I found online were at Nordstrom...but as you can see they an amazing selection of after-five dresses, as well.
Have you ever shopped in Forever 21? Although it is a store whose merchandise is geared toward young women, they have great deals on accessories and separates that anyone can wear. I liked this fuzzy mini for only $14, a wear-with-everything red crushed velvet cami, a gorgeous emerald satin skirt. And what about this sequin cardigan? I’ve never seen anything like it. How stunning would this be over a cocktail dress or with pants or leggings on New Year’s Eve? It also comes in black but I love this lighter color.
I hope you enjoyed my Cool Yule picks for dressy occasions! Happy shopping! If you find something wonderful, post the link in the comments!
