Two new USPS stamps released for holiday mail

Two new first class, “Forever” USPS stamps have been released for the 2021 holiday.

Otters in Snow was released on October 12, 2021. The watercolor art features 4 depictions of playful otters. The artist is John Burgoyne. They would be appropriate anytime.

The other new stamp is a Christmas stamp. Also a first class, “Forever” stamp, A Visit From St. Nick features 4 designs by artist Brad Woodard, inspired, of course, by the famous poem.

The stamps are sold in books of 20 for $11.60. The price of a single stamp is now 58 cents. Keep in mind that many contemporary holiday greeting cards are oversized, odd-sized and/or heavy. They require hand-cancelling and additional postage.

Many holiday favorites from previous years will still be available, including designs for Diwali, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, as well as additional Christmas stamps.

I send my cards right after Thanksgiving so I buy my stamps and cards early in the year. My post office sold me a book of the “wreath” Forever stamps left over from 2019 last week. Two of the wreaths are in earth tones so I will probably use those as my Thanksgiving stamps and save the red and green ones for cards. If there is a style you like, be sure to check your post office for availability!
