Holiday Volunteer and Donating Opportunities
Spread holiday cheer, peace and good will in your community this holiday season by donating or volunteering.
Volunteer – Thanksgiving Food Drive Loader, Reston Community Center
Unload a truck of food donations. Must be 14 years old or older and able to lift 50 pounds. Shifts are Tuesday and Wednesday, November 22 and November 23, 5 pm – 5:30 pm. Registration required – visit the Reston Community Center website for details.
Volunteer – Reston Holiday Parade
Be a line marshal, pacer, character assistant or balloon handler! Volunteers must be 14 years or older. Shifts are 9 am – 1 pm on Friday, November 25. Email RTC@myerspr.com for information.
Donate – Thanksgiving Food Drive
Donate canned food items and household essentials to the Reston Community Food Drive to benefit Cornerstones, a nonprofit organization, November 1 – 22. Follow link for drop off locations, hours and needed items. Volunteers also needed.
Blood Donors Needed
Donate blood to the American Red Cross by November 23 and receive a $10 Amazon gift card by mail. Donate between November 1-12 and be registered for a prize trip to Hawaii. Make an appointment online. Volunteers also needed.
Donate – Wreaths Across America
Sponsor a “National Wreaths Across America” wreath to be placed at the grave of a departed member of the U.S. military services for $15 a wreath. November 1 – December 18. Volunteers also needed.
Donate – One Warm Coat
Donate a gently used or new winter coat for a person in need to One Warm Coat. Cash donations also accepted. Drop off your donation at J.Crew store and receive $25 off a $125 purchase now through December 26.
Donate – Toys for Tots
Drop off a new, unwrapped toy at any Fairfax County Fire Station between now and December 12 or make a donation online. Volunteers also neeeded.
Donate – Salvation Army Angel Tree
Ask your workplace about bringing Christmas cheer to a family in need as an Angel Tree sponsor. You can also be an individual sponsor for a child by providing a donation online. Volunteers also needed. Read details here.
Donate – USPS Operation Santa
Register on this USPS site to read letters and select a child as an individual or a team to fulfill his or her Christmas wish. Not every child asks for a toy. Some ask for life’s essentials.
Donate – Northern Virginia Family Service
Donate funds, $25 gift cards to Target or Walmart, toys or volunteer for children and families experienciing homelessness, foster care, mental illness, poverty and other challenges. Learn more.
